What To Do in a Dental Emergency
If you’re experiencing any of the following issues, call us at (512)-258-8001. After calling our office, here are some tips that can aid in a swift and gentle recovery:
Moderate or Severe Toothache: A persistent or severe toothache could indicate a serious infection. Rinse with warm water and apply an ice pack to the outside of your cheek. This will reduce swelling and may help with pain. Do not apply any medication (e.g., aspirin) to your gums or teeth.
Do not attempt to remove a foreign object that has become wedged between teeth. You may floss gently and rinse with warm water. If the object does not come loose, seek immediate dental care.
Chipped, cracked, displaced or knocked out teeth: Avoid touching gum tissue around your tooth, leaving everything as intact as possible as you place the tooth into cold milk or saliva to keep it moist. Be careful to only hold a knocked-out tooth by the crown, or top area, and not by the roots. You can clean the affected area by rinsing gently with warm water.
If you experience swelling in the gums or mouth, gently apply an ice pack to the outside of your cheek while you phone the office.
